I just started to wonder if motivation is a habit, a program, or a natural trait? Because if you think more deeply, you'll find out that we are motivated by something in this life. It's like this motivation is keeping us in a positive mood to evolve. And yes, I have to admit that sometimes I'm less motivated and it's not that I want that, it just happens.

Today, let's find out more about motivation in its all states of aggregation.

The natural side of motivation

This is the classic, intuitive view.
From this perspective, motivation is an internal, innate quality: a spark, a drive, or a passion that some people are simply born with and others are not. I think we can say that motivation is something you have. It can be a segment of my personality that stays there no matter what. This motivation makes me create and turn thoughts into reality. You often hear people say, "She's a naturally motivated person," or "He has a real drive to succeed."

If we have this type of motivation, we don't need an external force to make us work towards a goal, we have this feeling, we can't live without evolving.

A person with a high natural drive for achievement will likely bring that energy to their career, hobbies, and personal goals. If you are naturally motivated, you'll notice your endless curiosity (like me), ambition, and persistence. These qualities have strong biological and genetic components.

De-coding my motivation

Well, this time we need help to achieve that motivation.
We can program our mind to be motivated by utilizing techniques based on cognitive psychology, neuroplasticity, and behavioral conditioning to override natural tendencies toward comfort and inertia.

How do we do it?
You need to understand your natural predispositions.
Are you naturally energized by competition or collaboration?
Do you need more solitude to recharge? Work with your nature, not against it.

Notice how your mind is programmed.
Are you driven by a fear of failure programmed in childhood? Are you chasing a goal that society (your programming) says you should want, rather than one that truly fits your hardware?
Consciously challenge and update this code.

Build better software: This is where you have the most direct control. Create tiny, consistent habits that align with your true nature (hardware) and your consciously chosen values (updated programming). Rely on the system of habits, not on the fleeting feeling of motivation.

New habits: train the motivation muscle

I know that going to the gym isn't a day-to-day habit we all have, and for most of us it's hard to keep up with. But… looking at motivation as a muscle that can be built, strengthened, and maintained through consistent practice and discipline… makes you think twice and train it somehow.

Core idea: Motivation is something you do. It's the result of systems, routines, and small, repeated actions. Action, in this view, precedes motivation, not the other way around.

Build new neural pathways

Starting with ridiculously small habits (e.g., "write one sentence," "put on my running shoes") builds the neural pathways and momentum.

Answer this question:
What tiny habit can I start today?
Building a new habit requires an initial spark of discipline.
So START today. ❤️
